Sensitive Skins and Somatic Processing for Affective and Sociable Robots based upon a Somatic Alphabet Approach

چکیده
The sense of touch is one of the most important senses of the human body. This thesis describes the biologically inspired design of "sensitive skins" for two different robotic platforms: Leonardo, a high degree-of-freedom, sociable robot and the Huggable, a portable therapeutic robotic companion for relational, affective touch. The first step in the design of the "sensitive skin" for Leonardo: a set of hands featuring 40 force-sensing resistors (FSRs) and embedded processing was created. Somatosensory inspired algorithms for calculating the location, direction of motion, and orientation with a set of these sensors forms the first stage in the design of a "Virtual Somatosensory Cortex." A multi-modal (temperature, electric field sensors, and Quantum Tunneling Composite (QTC) based force sensors) three dimensional sensor array was created as the first step in the design of the "sensitive skin" for the Huggable. A soft silicone skin was placed over this array. Preliminary results using neural networks show that the affective content of touch can be determined. شناسایی تنوع ژنتیکی در دو ژن کاندیدا TLR2، TNFα و ارتباط آن با بیماری ورم پستان در گاو هلشتاین
Mastitis is one of the most common diseases in dairy cattle, which has imposed therapy heavy costs to farmers through significant reduction in total milk production. Identification of nucleotide polymorphism of two candidate immunity response genes and its effects on SCS as a mastitis incidence indicator was carried out in this research. The genes were exons 1 and 2 of TLR2 and 3 and 4 of TNFα....
متن کاملAssociation between bovine lactoferrin gene variant and somatic cell count in milk based on EcoRI restriction site
Mastitis is one of the most serious and costly diseases affecting dairy cattle production. In the present study, effects of a lactoferrin gene polymorphism (intron 6) on milk somatic cell count (SCC) and subclinical mastitis was investigated in 121 Holstein dairy cattle. Two alleles of A and B and two genotypes of AA and AB were found in an EcoRI recognized single nucleotide polymorphism in int...
متن کاملThe Effect of Back Massage on Anxiety Components of Mothers With Preterm Infants
Introduction: Upon hospitalization of a premature infant immediately after giving birth, mothers would experience high levels of anxiety. One of the essential non-pharmacological interventions to control the anxiety is massage. The purpose of this study was to investigate the effect of massage on the anxiety of mothers with preterm infants. ...

Frequency of somaclonal variation in embryogenic calli and plants of Olea europaea L cv.Kroneiki derived from somatic embryogenesis were examined by randomly amplified polymorphic DNA (RAPD) analysis. Radicle and cotyledon (proximal part) of mature zygotic embryo were cultured in OMc medium supplemented with IBA (5 mgL-1) and 2-ip (0.5 mgL-1). Somatic embryogenesis was induced in calli of radic...
متن کاملSomatic Embryogenesis: An Alternative Method for in vitro Micropropagation
Plant tissue culture is an alternative method of commercial propagation and is being used widely for the commercial propagation of a large number of plant species, including many medicinal plants. Somatic embryogenesis is a process by which asexual or somatic cells are induced to form embryos in culture. Somatic embryogenesis is a multi-step regeneration process starting with formation of pro-e...
